Dove Lake Circuit: Leave Time for the Last Shuttle
Walk clockwise around Dove Lake, separating the six-kilometer circuit from park admission, shuttle travel and the return to the visitor center.

Dove Lake Circuit is the choice for a complete lake walk beneath Cradle Mountain, through open vegetation and rainforest. It is a six-kilometer outing with rough ground and steps, not simply a stroll from the bus to the boat shed. Start early enough to complete the circuit comfortably before your return shuttle.
Make the circuit clockwise
Parks and Wildlife Service directs visitors clockwise around the lake. Its Grade 3 circuit is 6 km (3.7 mi), two to three hours, starting and finishing at Dove Lake car park. The path undulates beneath the mountain and returns through rainforest. Allow pauses beyond that walking time; cloud can hide the mountain without shortening the path.
If you only want to see the lake, remain around the visitor shelter instead of setting off on a circuit you cannot finish. That is a shorter visit, with no assumed circuit distance or timing.
Your car waits at the visitor center
Park at Cradle Mountain Visitor Centre, validate your parks pass and obtain the required shuttle ticket. The shuttle journey to Dove Lake takes about twenty minutes one way. Adult shuttle fees are separate unless your qualifying Icon Parks Pass or Overland Track booking includes them; children under eighteen travel free. Check the operator’s current categories for your pass.
The published row after the first Sunday in October through November is 8:15am–5:30pm. Confirm the final Dove Lake departure at the desk; weather can change operations. Work backward from that departure, allowing the full circuit, stops and boarding margin. A 3pm start leaves only two and a half hours until 5:30pm, less than the upper walking allowance before any pauses.
Campervans, motorhomes and trailers cannot use Dove Lake Road at any time. This plan uses the shuttle in both directions, then returns to your vehicle at the visitor center. Read current PWS alerts and the weather before travel; mountain conditions can change quickly.
