Tolmin Gorges: Plan the Walk from Zatolmin
Plan the current one-way Tolmin Gorges visit, choose an approach from P1 or P2, and allow for steep sections and roughly 500 steps.

Choose Tolmin Gorges for a compact but stair-heavy walk through the Tolminka and Zadlaščica gorge landscape. Arrive at the ticket-office entrance from Zatolmin and follow the operator's current one-way visitor route. The published 2 km (1.2 mi) distance does not include every possible approach from Tolmin.
The operator's information page gives about 1½ hours for the visit, with steep sections and approximately 500 steps. This makes it a different proposition from a flat riverside promenade, even though the distance is short.
Water at the bottom, rock above
The two rivers meet at the confluence, where the gorge opens enough to reveal how the separate channels join. Farther into the Zadlaščica section, Bear's Head is a large boulder lodged between the canyon walls. Those are different views: the first gives the shape of the river system, the second brings the enclosing rock close around you.
The official attraction page also identifies Devil's Bridge high above the Tolminka. Look for these named points on the current visitor map so that a restricted branch does not become an improvised detour.
Choose the approach before your entry slot
P1 is the car-only parking at the gorges, reached by road from Tolmin through Zatolmin. P2 is at the end of Tolmin toward Zatolmin; the operator describes a maintained footpath taking about 15 minutes to the entrance. If using P2, add that approach before your ticket slot and again to the return.
P3 is farther away, at the beginning of Tolmin, with an approximately 30-minute walk through town. Summer shuttles are advertised from the more distant parking areas. Do not build an October visit around those shuttles without a service for the actual day; the walking approach from P2 is the clearer plan when its path is open.
Keep the current route together
Reserve an available entry slot before arranging a tightly timed day. The operator limits the number of visitors per slot. Its current information describes one-way passage beginning at the ticket office, so follow the entry instructions and current map there, including the signed exit and way back to your chosen parking area.
Do not use an older circular-walk description to decide which direction to take. In particular, treat any roadworks notice by its own dates and affected section. A past closure does not establish today's arrangement, and the current general page does not guarantee that no short-notice change will occur.
Give the steps time
Hiking shoes are mandatory under the operator's guidance; rain can make the path slippery. Allow pauses on the climbs without blocking the narrow passage. A booked time is a reason to arrive earlier, not a reason to hurry on wet steps.
Keep a cave visit out of this plan unless you arrange it separately under its own access rules. The gorges already provide the outing. Before extending the day elsewhere, account for the walk back from the exit and the journey out of Zatolmin. Our guide to reading trail descriptions explains why the attraction's walking time and the whole excursion are different totals.
