Choose Wineglass Bay Lookout when you want the high view of the curved beach without walking down to it. The route climbs through coastal woodland and granite boulders to the saddle and lookout platforms. The beach below is a separate descent, with a climb back afterward; it is not part of this short return walk.

The climb is the main effort

PWS lists 2.6 km (1.6 mi), one to one and a half hours return, Grade 3. The roughly 1.3 km (0.8 mi) outward section is steep. Seats give you places to pause, but they do not remove the climb or the descent back to the start.

Follow the lookout signs from the Walking Tracks Car Park, reach the platforms, then return on the designated lookout route. Leave the beach branch for another plan rather than deciding from the saddle that the bay looks close. Adding a descent changes the effort and the daylight needed to get back to your vehicle.

Granite and loose gravel can be demanding underfoot. Wear shoes with grip and remain within lookout barriers. The operator describes the steep track as unsuitable for restricted mobility or relevant health limitations. If that applies to your group, choose another confirmed Freycinet visit instead of assuming a short distance makes this one suitable.

Arrive at the trailhead, not just Coles Bay

Approach on Coles Bay Road, C302, from the Tasman Highway, continue through Coles Bay to the national park and follow signs to the Walking Tracks Car Park. Have a valid parks pass before walking. Toilets and a water tap are listed at the car park; bring your filled bottle onto the climb.

Read current park alerts and the forecast before departure, then follow trailhead instructions. A visitor-center closure on a particular date is different from a track closure; ask Freycinet staff on +61 3 6256 7000 if a notice leaves your chosen access unclear. Finish at the same car park with time for the road journey afterward.
