Zion Riverside Walk: Stay on the Path to the Narrows
Walk from Temple of Sinawava to the end of the paved trail, then return in time for the canyon shuttle.

At the northern end of Zion Canyon, Riverside Walk follows the Virgin River between narrowing sandstone walls. Make the end of the paved path your destination if you want to see the entrance to the Narrows without turning the outing into a river hike. Then return along the same path to Temple of Sinawava.
The paved walk has its own finish
Start beside the restrooms at Temple of Sinawava, shuttle stop 9. The NPS trail page gives the path as 1.6 km (1 mi) one way and estimates 1–2 hours for the activity. Retracing it makes roughly 3.2 km (2 mi) of walking, before any extra movement around the stop.
The first part is relatively flat, but concrete does not mean a uniformly smooth or level surface. Sand, irregular paving and drop-offs affect the walk. If mobility is the deciding factor, read the page’s detailed grades and surface assessment rather than relying on its easy rating. Difficulty depends on more than distance.
At the end, turn around on the paved trail. Entering the Virgin River begins the Narrows and changes the equipment, weather and water questions. It is not an automatic extension of this visit.
Give the shuttle part of the day
During shuttle season, leave your car in permitted parking and board the Zion Canyon shuttle at the visitor center. If park parking is full, use legal parking in Springdale and reach the pedestrian entrance by the town shuttle or on foot. The canyon bus then takes you to Temple of Sinawava; after the walk, board there for the visitor center.
The canyon shuttle is free, with no shuttle reservation or ticket, although park admission applies. Allow about 45 minutes each way on the bus plus waits. Private vehicles cannot use Zion Canyon Scenic Drive during shuttle season, including before and after operating hours.
For September 13–October 24, the published last bus out of Temple of Sinawava is 7:15 pm; for October 25–November 28 it is 6:15 pm. Those are canyon departures, not the last visitor-center departures. Be back well before the final bus: NPS warns that missing it can mean a nine-mile walk back. If you also need the Springdale bus, check its separate last departure and allow for the canyon ride.
Check the path, not only the river
Current conditions can close icy sections in winter. Check Riverside Walk itself before boarding; a Narrows restriction is a separate question. Pets are not allowed on this trail. Bring drinking water from a potable supply, and follow the park warning not to drink river water or submerge your head in it.
