Choose the lower viewpoint or the hike from Wolfe Ranch, keeping parking and the complete return distance separate.

Choose the Lower Delicate Arch Viewpoint if you want to see the arch with a short, level approach. Choose the hike from Wolfe Ranch if standing near the free-standing arch is the reason for your visit and you are prepared for a sustained uphill walk. These are different starts with different returns, not two lengths of the same viewpoint path.

The lower view keeps the arch distant

From the viewpoint parking area, the dedicated NPS trail profile lists a level, hardened path of 61 m (200 ft) round trip. Follow the lower-viewpoint signs and return to the same car. The arch remains roughly 1.6 km (1 mi) away: this stop shows the formation from a distance rather than reaching its base.

The nearby upper viewpoint has stairs. If avoiding steps is the reason for choosing this stop, stay with the lower route rather than following a higher-view sign automatically.

Wolfe Ranch starts the full hike

Park at Wolfe Ranch for the 4.8 km (3 mi) round trip. The specific trailhead profile lists 164 m (538 ft) of elevation change and two to three hours. The distance includes the return.

The route climbs steep, unshaded slickrock and crosses exposed ground. Near the arch, a narrow rock ledge extends for about 183 m (200 yd); it is often icy in winter. Choose the lower viewpoint if that exposure does not suit your group. Follow the trail markers across the rock and leave energy for retracing the same terrain.

If Wolfe Ranch parking is full, moving to the viewpoint lot does not preserve the same walking day. Walking along the road to the trailhead adds 1.6 km (1 mi) each way, increasing the total to about 8 km (5 mi). Unless that longer version already fits your group, return later or choose the lower viewpoint. Difficulty is more than the destination name.

Entry and heat still matter

Arches does not require advance timed entry in 2026, but admission applies and congestion can cause entrance diversions. Park only in designated spaces. Check alerts before driving in and confirm your chosen trail is available.

Shade is scarce; avoid exertion in peak heat. NPS asks full-hike visitors to carry at least 2 L of water each, since none is supplied at Wolfe Ranch. Pets are prohibited on the hike and both viewpoint trails; service animals follow the park's separate rules. Stay on established routes, protect the living soil crust and do not climb or walk on the arch.
