Shuishe to Chaowu: A Short Sun Moon Lake Waterfront Return
Use the pedestrian waterfront from Shuishe Pier towards Chaowu Pier, without mistaking a bikeway distance or mountain closure for this lakeside walk.

Shuishe’s waterfront path gives you a close view of Sun Moon Lake without a hill climb. From Shuishe Pier, choose the pedestrian route towards Chaowu Pier and return the same way. This works as a short visit from a Shuishe base, with the pier serving as an easy place to meet again afterwards.
Follow the walking path, not the cycling distance
The scenic-area page covers both cycling and walking. Its separate waterfront-walking description runs from beside Shuishe Pier through Chaowu Pier towards Jioulongkou. The advertised 3.5 km bikeway is a different measurement; it is not a verified distance for this shorter pier-to-pier return.
Start beside Shuishe Pier, follow pedestrian signs along the water and turn at Chaowu Pier. Retracing the path keeps the end of the walk at your starting point. Continuing towards Jioulongkou would extend the visit, so leave that branch out if you have a boat, bus or hotel departure to meet.
The operator identifies accessible features on the waterfront trail. That does not establish that every approach from a hotel, road or pier is step-free. If gradients or steps affect your choice, ask about the precise Shuishe–Chaowu section and your entrance before setting out.
Make the lake stop fit the departure
The listing gives general visiting hours of 09:00–17:00 and warns that construction can temporarily affect access. Arrive with enough time to walk back rather than using the closing hour as a turnaround time. A boat trip is optional and introduces a separate service timetable; the walking return does not require one.
The construction index, checked on 18 October 2026, includes a damaged Shuishe Mountain trail. That mountain route is distinct from the waterfront path described here. It also lists works elsewhere around the lake, so do not infer that every shore connection is available. For an affected entrance or accessibility question, the scenic-area information number is +886 49 285 5668. Return to Shuishe Pier before leaving the waterfront for your onward transport.
