Staubbach Falls: The Valley View and the Gallery
Visit Lauterbrunnen’s cliff-side waterfall, with a separate decision about the seasonal climb to its gallery.

Staubbach works well as a valley-floor stop in Lauterbrunnen. Start with the view of water falling from the cliff above the village; add the gallery only if you want a closer, uphill visit and it is open. Seeing the falls and reaching the gallery are different outings.
Water above the village
The fall drops roughly 300 meters over the rock face. Its spray is part of the attraction: the water does not arrive as one solid column. From below, you can take in the waterfall against the valley wall without committing to a mountain excursion. The gallery path climbs from the foot of the falls toward the cliff. Jungfrau’s waterfall page gives May through October as its normal opening season, while waterfall viewing is possible throughout the year.
For a winter visit, make the village view the plan. A year-round waterfall listing does not mean the gallery is open. In the shoulder season, look for the access notice at the gallery approach before beginning the climb. Do not plan this uphill path as a step-free alternative to the valley floor.
A railway arrival keeps the visit simple
Travel to Lauterbrunnen station via Interlaken Ost, changing there to the Berner Oberland railway. Jungfrau publishes that connection on its Lauterbrunnen page. From the station, continue through the village toward the signed Staubbach approach. Keep Lauterbrunnen station as the return point; the gallery is an optional spur, so it does not require a second transport pickup.
Allow separate time for walking through the village, stopping below the falls and climbing back down if you enter the gallery. A rail connection immediately after the waterfall stop leaves little room for that last part. For companions who want different amounts of climbing, agree to meet back at the foot of the gallery approach rather than separating on the cliff path; our mixed-pace planning guide explains how to keep that arrangement clear.
Staubbach is a good small outing when the valley itself is the attraction. Keep the rail journey and village walk in the day’s plan even if the gallery is closed.
