Lavaux on Foot: Saint-Saphorin to Lutry
Walk the signed vineyard route above Lake Geneva and use the railway to finish in a different village.

Take the train to Saint-Saphorin, walk west through Lavaux and finish at Lutry station. That gives the vineyard terraces a full outing without retracing your steps. Leave room for the villages: this is an up-and-down hillside walk, even though the lake remains beside the route.
The lake is below you, not the whole route
Switzerland Tourism’s Terrasses de Lavaux route is 11 kilometers one way, with 440 meters of ascent and an estimated walking time of 3 hours 15 minutes. It rates the technical demands easy and the physical demands medium. Those figures belong to Saint-Saphorin–Lutry, not an out-and-back lakeside promenade.
The hillside terraces create the changing view: rows of vines, retaining walls and Lake Geneva beyond them. Saint-Saphorin adds narrow lanes and old winegrowers’ houses before the longer walk begins. If you want a gentle village visit, stay there and return from the same station. If you want the succession of vineyard views, give the through-walk most of the day’s walking time.
Treat the walking estimate as moving time. A sit-down lunch, village detours or a cellar appointment needs additional time; none becomes shorter because a train is waiting at the far end. Carry water rather than making an unconfirmed tasting room your only refreshment stop.
Follow the hiking route to Lutry
The official itinerary is route 113 and is signed in both directions. Use the linked SwitzerlandMobility map while following the waymarks; a lower road beside the lake is not automatically the same itinerary. The published arrival is Saint-Saphorin railway station and the departure is Lutry railway station. Check the return train to your base before starting and retain those exact station names.
Drivers can leave the car at their chosen rail base and use trains at both ends. Finishing a one-way hike is easier when nobody has to walk back for the car; our point-to-point guide covers that decision.
The normal route season is March–November, but weather or local works can interrupt it. Consult the route map and local information before departure, especially late in the season. A poor walking day can still suit a short Saint-Saphorin visit; keep that as a separate plan with its own station return.
