Checking the route

Cola de Caballo is the far end of a valley walk, not a roadside waterfall. From Pradera de Ordesa, the route works upstream through forest and past cascades before reaching the open floor of the Soaso cirque. The changing valley is as much a reason to go as the final fall.

For a first visit, use the main valley path out and back. Spain’s tourism board gives 17.5 km for the return outing and about three hours to reach the waterfall. It is a substantial walking day even though the normal route has no technical climbing.

Follow the river to Soaso

Start at Pradera and follow signs for Cola de Caballo on GR 11. Arripas and Estrecho come before the stepped Gradas de Soaso; beyond them the landscape opens toward the cirque. Return to Pradera along the same main route. This keeps the itinerary distinct from Senda de los Cazadores and Faja de Pelay, which are a longer, more demanding circuit.

If your group is slowing in the forest, turn around there rather than treating the last waterfall as compulsory. The return is still a walk, not transport from the upper valley. Set a turnaround time against your actual connection from Pradera, including stops and a buffer.

Torla is the road gateway

Begin the day at Torla’s park visitor center. Access to Pradera is regulated, with mandatory buses during designated periods and private-car restrictions when that service operates. The Aragón park page publishes the 2026 bus information; its autumn service periods include October 2–18, October 23–25 and October 30–November 2. Do not assume that restrictions only apply in July and August.

For October 2–18, the published first uphill bus is at 06:00; for October 23–25 it is at 07:00. The last downhill bus is at 21:00 in both periods. The October 30–November 2 profile starts at 07:00 and ends downhill at 20:00. These are the final transport limits, not sensible targets for finishing the walk. Before leaving Torla, establish that day’s permitted access and current trail conditions with the visitor center, +34 974 486 472. Take the bus to Pradera when required, complete the walk back to that same stop and return to Torla. If your date allows driving, the return walking endpoint remains your vehicle at Pradera.

A late arrival in Torla is a reason to shorten the valley walk. It is not a reason to squeeze the published outbound time into the daylight left and hope that the way back will take care of itself.
