Planning a mountain day

The full Passadiços do Mondego walk is a journey between two entrances. Choose it for a day following the Mondego and its tributaries, with landmarks including the medieval Mizarela bridge and the Pateiro hydroelectric plant. Arrange the ride between the ends before buying entry.

Caldeirão to Videmonte

The municipal route page recommends Barragem do Caldeirão to Videmonte. It lists about 12 km, five hours, medium difficulty and more than 600 m of accumulated elevation change. This is a substantial walking day despite the boardwalk photographs.

Wooden structures cover 6.5 km; the rest uses rural dirt paths, according to the visitor rules. Some rural sections allow vehicles. Expect steps and changes of surface, and stay on the marked route.

Leave a car at the finishing entrance if you have arranged transport to the start, or book a pickup from your finish. The municipal information contact is Guarda Welcome Center, +351 271 205 530. Ask for Caldeirão–Videmonte transport on your date, the meeting point and last pickup. Confirm the ride directly before committing to the full crossing.

For a smaller outing, the route page identifies Videmonte–Açude dos Trinta as a 2 km linear family section. That distance does not return you to Videmonte. Agree whether you will retrace it or be collected, and confirm the ticket arrangement. It does not establish that the full walkway is step-free.

Finish before closing

Published October hours are 8:00–18:00; November through March is 9:00–17:00. At the five-hour estimate, a hypothetical 13:00 October start reaches closing with no allowance for stops or delays. Start earlier. This is planning arithmetic, not an official latest-entry time.

The rules list €2.50 admission, children 12 and under free, and ticket sales through the official online office or Welcome Center. Bring the actual ticket: the confirmation email does not replace it. Access closes at very high or maximum fire risk. If a landslide blocks the path, turn back and notify staff rather than going around it.

Compare the cliff setting of the Seven Hanging Valleys Trail if you are choosing a Portuguese walking day; the return journey matters there too.
