Frecha da Mizarela: A Waterfall View or the PR7 Circuit
See Frecha da Mizarela from the village lookout or plan the separate eight-kilometer PR7 hike from Merujal.

Frecha da Mizarela drops from the Serra da Freita plateau into a steep valley. Arouca Geopark describes the River Caima falling more than 60 meters here. You can appreciate that drop without turning a lookout visit into a descent to the waterfall’s base.
The simplest choice is the viewpoint near Mizarela village. Make that named lookout the destination of your road journey, walk only the designated open approach and return to your vehicle or agreed pickup there. The Geopark’s geosite page explicitly identifies it as a place to view the waterfall. It does not describe a short, easy path down to its foot.
PR 7 starts elsewhere
For a longer outing, PR 7 Nas Escarpas da Mizarela is an 8 km circular route from Merujal Campsite, with an average duration of 3 hours 30 minutes and a medium/high rating. Start and finish at Merujal; do not apply those figures to a walk beginning at the village lookout.
The circuit adds the Biodiversity Station, villages and changing views of the waterfall’s escarpments. Its published altitude range is 650–960 meters. That range is not a total-ascent figure, but it helps explain why this is a different commitment from standing at a viewpoint.
Match the visit to the weather
The Geopark warns that winter on Serra da Freita can bring snow and ice. An all-year route listing does not mean dry paths or ordinary summer walking conditions. For PR 7, obtain the current marked route information from Arouca Geopark and review conditions before leaving Merujal. If conditions do not suit a full circuit, keep the visit to an open designated lookout rather than inventing a shorter descent.
Both choices can fit a road trip, but they need different time allocations: a viewpoint stop with the vehicle nearby, or a hiking block that ends back at Merujal. An agreed return time should include the drive onward, especially if the waterfall is one stop among several. Reading a trail description helps separate a useful route figure from the tempting assumption that every nearby path shares it.
