Carvoeiro’s Boardwalk and Algar Seco: Two Different Walks

Use the cliff-top boardwalk for a coastal stroll; treat the stairs into Algar Seco as a separate decision.

Checking the route

Carvoeiro gives you two ways to look at the same coast. Stay on the boardwalk for the cliff-top line between the little church above town and Algar Seco. Take the stairs for a closer look at the rock formations below. The second option adds steps; it should not be assumed to be part of an easy promenade.

Algar Seco Parque’s local description identifies the boardwalk’s church-to-Algar-Seco connection, benches along the way and the stair access into the rocks. The parish authority describes limestone shaped by rain and the sea. The appeal changes with your height above the sea: coastline from the top, eroded rock shapes from below.

A return stroll from the church end

If you are already in Carvoeiro, head to the church above the beach and use the signed boardwalk toward Algar Seco. Return along the same boardwalk to the church end and continue back into town. Arrange a pickup at the same town meeting point if you are visiting by car or taxi; this outline does not depend on a bus serving the far end.

Keeping to the boardwalk makes the outing easy to shorten. You can stop at a bench, turn back before the end or leave the steps for another day. There is no need to make a loop through unfamiliar streets simply to get back.

Decide about the stairs at Algar Seco

At the rock formations, descend only by the designated open stairs and return by them. Do not substitute a climb across the rock edges for a closed or unsuitable stair. If steps are the reason someone cannot join, keep the group’s shared outing on the upper walk rather than describing the whole visit as accessible.

This is a town-side coastal visit, with no promised cave entry, boat trip or swimming stop. Follow barriers and local notices at the stairs. The local description establishes the two walking levels; it does not give a daily condition report.

For a sustained hike along the Algarve cliffs, read the Seven Hanging Valleys guide. For a shorter visit built around Carvoeiro itself, the boardwalk and a deliberate decision about the stairs are enough.
