Ukko-Koli: Use the Stairs During the October Path Works
Reach the lake view from the upper yard by the stair route, while the demanding accessible path is closed for renovation.

For an October 2026 visit to Ukko-Koli, use the stairway from the upper yard if stairs fit your group. The demanding accessible route is closed for renovation beginning October 5, with work expected to take about four weeks. The park's notice explicitly keeps the stairway open during those works; it does not offer an accessible detour to the summit.
The view is across Lake Pielinen and the forested landscape below the Koli hills. A single Ukko-Koli viewpoint visit gives you that setting without adding Akka-Koli, Paha-Koli or the longer trails south toward Mäkrä.
Reach the upper yard first
Drive from Koli village up Ylä-Kolintie to the signed parking areas. The local tourism directions describe the short approach to the funicular that reaches the upper yard beside Break Sokos Hotel Koli and Nature Centre Ukko. Confirm the lift's operation before relying on it, especially if the parking-to-yard climb would change your decision.
From the upper yard, follow the open signed stairs toward Ukko-Koli's viewpoints. Return by the same stairs and the agreed approach to your parking area. Keep this as a stepped viewpoint visit; the closed path should not become the return leg simply because it appears to offer a gentler descent.
Two changes to the usual plan
The September 14 renovation notice, updated September 15, says the work starts at the upper end. It warns that access from Ukko-Koli to longer southern trails is affected during the first days and gives different access points for those walks. They are separate outings, not extensions included here.
Parking also changed on September 1, 2026. The park's current news describes a fee trial for P1, P2 and P3 at Ylä-Kolintie 39, expected to continue into spring 2027. Hotel guests staying at Break Sokos Hotel Koli and conference participants retain free parking; other park car parks remain free during the trial. Follow the payment instructions for the actual lot you use.
Recheck the work notice and conditions before travel. Four weeks is an estimate, not a confirmed reopening date. If your group needs the accessible path, postpone that summit plan until the park confirms it is available and suitable. The shoulder-season planning guide helps keep the view from depending on a closed return route.
