Dickson Falls: Into the Brook Valley and Back

Choose Fundy’s boardwalk-and-stair circuit, distinguishing the waterfall walk from its lookout and seasonal road access.

Dickson Falls is a forest-and-brook walk, descending into a damp valley before the circuit brings you back up. Choose the 1.5 km (0.9 mi) loop if boardwalks and stairs suit your group. The nearby lookout is a different option: its accessible platform looks toward the Bay of Fundy, not down into the waterfall valley.

Follow the named loop

Start at the signed Dickson Falls trailhead and parking area. The trail description begins with the lookout, then leads into the cool valley beside Dickson Brook. Follow the marked circuit past the cascades and return to the same trailhead.

The park trail table allows 30–45 minutes and identifies boardwalks and stairs. Leave extra time to read the interpretive panels and climb back without rushing. Ferns and the sheltered brook valley make this a different outing from the park’s tidal beaches; low tide is not a timetable for the waterfall.

For a visit without the stair circuit, the lookout description identifies a concrete surface with an access ramp, accessible parking and a pit privy. Choose it for the bay view rather than expecting the same waterfall perspective.

Check the road before choosing a fall date

The October 15, 2026 trail report rates Dickson Falls good with wet and muddy sections. That does not establish year-round car access: Point Wolfe Road closes in fall until May. Ask the visitor center at 506-887-6000 whether the road to Dickson Falls parking is open for your date before driving from Alma.

The park also reports Point Wolfe Covered Bridge closed September 8–December 2026. Do not extend this waterfall visit across that bridge. Return to your original trailhead and leave on the confirmed open road. Compare stairs, footing and return effort before choosing the full loop over the lookout.
