Checking the route

Myrafälle is a walk up a rocky stream valley on bridges and stairs, from the lower entrance near Muggendorf to the upper reservoir by Karnerwirt. It is a good choice for people who want a compact climb with frequent changes of view. It is not a level waterside stroll.

There is a current reason to adjust expectations. On October 18, 2026, the operator’s notice says the falls have little water and often none. Choose the visit for the rock channel, woodland walk and water-power history as well as any flow; if a rushing waterfall is the main reason for traveling, check the latest condition before going.

Climb to the reservoir, then decide

From the signed Myrafälle parking, pass Myrastubn to the entrance. The operator’s English leaflet describes following the yellow-marked route up the bridges and stairs to the upper water reservoir and Karnerwirt. The route shows how a small stream, narrow rock passages and former water-power works fit into the valley.

For a shorter outing, make the upper reservoir your endpoint and return by the signed permitted route to the lower entrance. Confirm the return direction at the ticket point before climbing; the narrow walkways are a reason to follow local circulation. Do not count arrival at Karnerwirt as arrival back at your car.

The leaflet’s 6 km, roughly 2.5-hour Kreuth round trip is a longer option, continuing uphill to Jagasitz before returning on blue markings. Its 9 km, roughly four-hour Steinwandklamm extension is another outing again and has separate admission. Neither number is the length or time of the short waterfall visit. Use a separate route plan for either extension.

Steps, daylight and access

The operator says the falls are open daily from 8 am until dark. Its important notices say the path is unsuitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs and that the lighting is out of operation until further notice. Finish in daylight, especially in October. Fire and smoking in nature are strictly prohibited.

Admission contributes to maintaining the paths. The ticket page mixes current-looking day prices with a season-pass section still labeled 2024, so check the day ticket at the kiosk rather than relying on that old pass. The site explicitly says Myrafälle is not included in the NÖ-CARD.

Back to Muggendorf or Pernitz

Drivers should use designated parking rather than village streets. For public transport, the operator’s arrival page names the Wiener Neustadt–Gutenstein railway to Pernitz/Muggendorf and bus 332 to the falls. Use the linked VOR planner for your actual outward and return journeys; an hourly-bus statement in the 2024 leaflet is not a timetable for your date.

Return to the entrance with time for that last bus or the walk to your parking. If the stairs are taking longer than expected, shorten the visit before adding Hausstein or Kreuth. The turnaround-time guide helps keep that choice tied to daylight and the journey home.
