Sgwd Gwladus: Follow the Old Tramway from Pontneddfechan
Walk from the village to the waterfall and return the same way, keeping closed Pont Melin Fach parking out of the plan.

Sgwd Gwladus makes a focused Waterfall Country outing from Pontneddfechan. Much of the approach follows a former tramway serving silica mines, with the Nedd Fechan and its tributary landscape beside you. Choose this single waterfall and return to the village rather than treating it as the start of an unplanned tour of every nearby fall.
Arrive at Pontneddfechan at the end of the B4242 from Glynneath. The Geopark's visit description identifies village parking at OS grid reference SN 900076 and the walking start behind the Angel Inn. Confirm the available public parking and local restrictions on arrival.
Follow the signed path toward Sgwd Gwladus. The Geopark estimates about 40 minutes one way. Allow for the same walk back plus time at the waterfall; do not read that figure as a total visit time. The opening is largely flat to the picnic area, but the wider Elidir route becomes uneven and includes steep ascents. Wear boots for slippery rock and follow the path rather than the water's edge.
Return to the village, not a closed car park
The current NRW Elidir information says Pont Melin Fach car park is closed, with a barrier at its entrance. Do not attempt to drive there. NRW still directs walkers to start at Pontneddfechan and return along the same path.
Sgwd Gwladus lies on the Afon Pyrddin, which joins the Nedd Fechan. The river guide also identifies old mine entrances along the former tramway and says they must not be entered. Keep the industrial remains as something to observe from the trail.
NRW warns against entering the cold, deep, fast-flowing water or attempting untrained gorge walking and scrambling. Enjoy the fall from the marked visitor route and retrace your approach to the village. Check those current pages and local notices before departure; our route-shape guide helps protect the same-start return when neighbouring trails invite a longer walk.
